Day 1: Pick up from Goma and transfer to Virunga National Park.
On the 1st day of the 4 days Le Petit Virunga Package your safari guide from Africa Vacation Safaris, he will pick you up from Goma after you have cleared Convoy with the Rwanda Congo border. Your safari guide will welcome you and belief you about the safari, after the beliefing it’s a very short period drive from Goma to Virunga National Park, this is where you are going to pass through the verdant forests and the tea plantations of Rutshuru Territory with the farmers tending to their crops and children playing in the villages. And once you arrive, you will visit the Virunga National park headquarters for gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo permit and later you will be transferred to your lodge at Mikeno Luxury lodge where you will check in, and be served with lunch, and after lunch you will meet you’re your safari guide and go for the guided nature walks.
This is where you will be offered immersive experience with the park’s stunning natural beauty with the accompany of the expert guides as you explore the park’s lush forests, grasslands where you spot the variety of wildlife like okapis, chimpanzees, and various bird species. The guided walks provide a unique opportunity to learn about the park’s diverse ecosystems, unique geological features and many others. After the experience you will be transferred back to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking.
On the 2nd day of the 4 days safari, you will wake up early in the morning and enjoy your breakfast, after breakfast you will get your packed lunch you will meet your safari guide and then you will be transferred to the main trail head for gorilla trekking at Bukima where you will receive a briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking by the park guides and park rangers, as well you will be given the safety measures to take while in the forest looking for the gorillas in their natural habitat. After the briefing you will explore the forest and start the trekking while looking for the gorillas and this takes a period of about 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas.
You will be rewarded with the unique sightings of the various wildlife along the way looking for the gorillas that includes the animal species, bird species, plant species and tree species. And once the gorillas are spotted you will be given a period of one hour to be in the presence of the gorillas that is watching them doing their daily activities, watching them feed, breastfeed, grooming and taking pictures and recording the videos to show people home after the safari. You are advised not to use flash cameras while taking pictures of the gorillas because flash disrupts the gorillas. After the one hour with the gorillas you will trek back to Bukima where you will be transferred back to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Ascending Mount Nyiragongo.
On the 3rd day of the safari, get up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast, after breakfast you will check out from your lodge together with your packed lunch and meet your safari guide and drive to Kibati ranger post to where you will start your hiking safari. At Kibati your rangers will belief you about the dos and don’ts of Mount Nyiragongo hiking. You will start ascending at around 10:30am the most active volcanoes within the Virunga massif that last erupted in 2002 that lead to the destruction of several properties, like the peoples’ lives and wildlife.
During hiking you will spot the diverse number of stunning wildlife that thrilling along the trail in Virunga National Park like animal species, bird species and various primates. You will enjoy your packed lunch while hiking with the breathtaking views. Then when you are done taking you will proceed hiking to the summit until you reach the glowing lava lake at the top of Mount Nyiragongo, and spot the neighboring destinations that is Rwanda and Uganda. You will later transfer to your tent for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 4: Descend Mount Nyiragongo and transfer to Kigali Rwanda.
On the final day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and be served with breakfast at the summit of Nyiragongo, then you will later start your descending back to Kibati ranger post with the perfect views. Compared to ascending that takes longer hours descending is very easy back to Kibati, And once you arrive at Kibati your safari driver will transfer you to your convenient place that is either to Goma or to Kigali in Rwanda to add other safari activities like Kigali city tour to explore Kimironko market, Kigali Memorial site and among others that will make your safari come to the end.
