Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Maasai Mara national reserve.
On the 1st day of the safari, you will depart from Nairobi to Maasai Mara national reserve, this is your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris will pick you either from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or from your hotel in Nairobi. He will welcome you and brief you about the safari. After the briefing you will start on your journey to Maasai Mara national reserve that takes approximately 6 hours’ drive, along the way you will have the unique sightings of the beautiful sceneries like the cultivated green highlands and mainly pass through the Great Rift Valley to where you will make a stopover for the scenic sightings, while on the floor of the rift valley and then you will have the unique sighting experience like Mount Longonot, and among others.
You will have a second stopover at Narok town and later continue with your journey until you reach the reserve. And once you reach you will check in your lodge ad then get served with lunch. After lunch you will be transferred to the reserve for the late afternoon game drive to watch the numerous wildlife especially the big five mammals that includes the lions, buffaloes, leopards, elephants and rhinos. Not only the big five mammals you will watch other various animal species and bird species. After the game drive you will transfer back to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Full day experience in Maasai Mara national reserve.
On the 2nd day of the safari, wake up and enjoy breakfast, after breakfast you will meet your safari driver with your packed lunch and then drive to the reserve that is Kenya’s top safari destination to spend the massive full day in the reserve. You will enjoy the early morning game drive to spot the reserve’s early raisers that includes the elephants, leopards, lions, giraffes, wildebeests, cheetahs, zebras and among many others. And you will watch various bird species including Abdim’s storks, Bateleur, Cinnamon-breasted bunting, Giant Kingfishers, Jackson’s widow birds, Kori bustards, Lazy cisticolas and among others. After the morning game drive you will go for your picnic lunch while spotting various wildlife along the banks of the Mara River. After lunch you will go for the more afternoon game viewing experience to spot the reserve’s magnificent wildlife like hartebeests, hyenas, impalas, Thomson’s gazelles, elands, topis, reedbucks, and among others. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer from Maasai Mara to Lake Naivasha.
On the 3rd of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast, after breakfast check out from your lodge and then start of the journey to Lake Naivasha the fresh water located in northwest of Nairobi in town of Naivasha in Nakuru county; the journey takes you about 5 to 6 hours’ drive and you will reach during lunch time. Once you arrive you will check in your lodge and then be served with lunch. After lunch you will meet your safari guide and then transfer you for the afternoon boat ride, this takes you to the stunning lake to spot the attractive hippos and various bird species including kingfishers, pelicans, cormorants, fish eagles, grey-backed fiscals and among many others. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Lake Nakuru.
On the 4th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and then enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast check out from your lodge and then meet your safari guide and drive to Lake Nakuru national park that takes you about 1 to 2 hours’ drive. Lake Nakuru is the rift valley freshwater lake that is found in the southern region of Nakuru and protected by Lake Nakuru national park. Lake Nakuru is known by the variety of the bird species with the famous millions of the flamingos that are attracted to the lake because of the algae. Upon your arrival you will explore the lake to where you will have the amazing sightings of the huge numbers of the flamingos, Grey crowned, Common cuckoo, Crab plovers, Yellow-billed ducks, Egptian Goose, Northern shovelers, Black-winged kites, African Harrier Hawks, European Honey buzzards, White-headed vultures, pelicans, herons and among others alongside the eastern black rhinos, white rhinos, warthogs and among many others. After the experience you will drive to your lodge and check in, after you will be served with lunch. After lunch you will transfer back to the park for the game drive in the park’s plains to spot animal species like rhinos, lions, antelopes, elands, warthogs, waterbucks, and among many others. After the experience you will transfer back to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 5: Depart to Nairobi.
On the final day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will check out from your lodge and then meet your safari guide and depart for Nairobi, depending on the time you can opt to go for the Nairobi city tour to explore the fascinating areas like the Giraffe center, Nairobi museum and among others. And after the city tour you will enjoy your lunch in Nairobi. After lunch you will be dropped either at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to catch a flight back home or dropped to your hotel in Nairobi that will make your safari come to the end.
