Detailed itinerary of 12 Day Kenya and Tanzania Safari

Day 1: Lake Naivasha

Your 12 Day Kenya and Tanzania Safari adventure begins with pick up from your hotel in Nairobi or at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you will be met by our representative- your driver guide. After a short briefing about the safari, embark on a journey to Lake Naivasha where you will enjoy a boat cruise and a guided walk on Crescent Island Sanctuary found in the middle of the lake.

On a boat ride you will see several water animals including hippos, on a guided walk on Crescent Island you will have a close encounter with several animals including impalas, wildebeests, waterbucks, zebras, giraffes and several bird species like fish eagles and herons among others.

After this amazing experiences, you will enjoy lunch and then embark on a journey to Lake Nakuru National Park arriving in evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Lake Nakuru National Park

This day is dedicated to exploring Lake Nakuru National Park. After an early breakfast, set out for a full day game drive. Explore the diverse habitats of the park allowing for sightings of various animals including lions, waterbucks and numerous bird species.

Enjoy picnic lunch by the lake offering a chance to enjoy your meals with views animals coming to the lake to drink water, followed by more wildlife viewing in the afternoon. At sunset, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3&4: Maasai Mara.

After a delicious breakfast, bid farewell to Lake Nakuru and drive to the iconic Masai Mara which is a drive of approximately 4 hours away. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge after check in and go for a game drive in the afternoon.

On Day 4, you will spend the whole day exploring the enormous vast plains of Maasai Mara on game drives and optional hot air balloon safari. From the comfort of your 4×4 safari vehicle, you will enjoy sighting of several animals including lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, wildebeests, gazelles, zebras, among others.

On hot air balloon starting with early pick up at your lodge at 4:00 am, offers you aerial views of the reserve’s endless plains and eye’s view of animals including lion, leopards among others. This thrilling experience ends with a champagne bush breakfast, toasting to the adventure.

Day 5: Transfer to Serengeti

After breakfast at the lodge, meet your guide and embark on a journey to Serengeti National Park with border crossing at Isebania Border. After clearing with the authorities, you will meet your Tanzania guide, change to the Tanzania vehicle and journey to Serengeti National Park with your lunch en-route. Arrive in the park in the later afternoon, with a short game drive you will head to your lodge for check in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Northern Serengeti   

This day is dedicated to exploring the Northern Serengeti, a beautiful region that serves as an essential corridor for the Great Migration connecting the southern green season short-grass plains in the south with the dry areas up north.

With your packed lunch, you will head out for a full day game drive. If you visit in time for the Great Migration, you will follow the large herds of wildebeests as they dot the endless plains of the region. Also, keep your eyes out for lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, giraffes, gazelles among others. You will enjoy lunch at one of the picnic sites, then continue exploring the region till evening. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Central Serengeti 

After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and embark on another game drive as you will head to the Central Serengeti Region, renowned for high concentration of wildlife and during December – April, the vast herds of wildebeests congregate here and can be seen.

Central Serengeti also known as Seronera is a predator capital and during the game drives, you will enjoy excellent sighting of several predators including leopards, cheetahs, lions among others. On this day, you will enjoy picnic lunch and continue exploring the endless plains of Central Serengeti till evening, head to your lodge for check-in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Serengeti National Park

Spend a full day exploring the vast plains of Serengeti National Park, this iconic park is widely known as the best place to go for a Tanzania safari, mainly because of the Great Migration that passes through here. The impressive stampeding herds are closely followed by predators that live here including lions, leopards, wild dogs and cheetahs which you will see during the game drive.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After a delicious breakfast, checkout of your lodge and journey to Ngorongoro Conservation Area with en-route game drive in the Serengeti plains with your lunch boxes. We will have a brief stop at a Masai village on your way uphill to the Ngorongoro Crater Rim, here you will be entertained by local dances and drama, interact with the elders and take part in livestock rearing and milking among others.

Continue to your lodge, check in for an evening of rest, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Full Day in Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Have early breakfast, meet your guide and head out for a full day Ngorongoro Crater game drive with your packed lunch boxes. Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest unbroken caldera also referred to as Garden of Africa and the 8th Wonder of the world.

The crater floor hosts an unmatched concentration of wildlife which you will get sight of in a close range. Keep an eye out for lions, elephants, warthogs, hyenas, cheetahs, buffaloes, cheetahs, leopards among others. Enjoy picnic lunch served at the Hippo Poolside picnic site. Later in the afternoon, you will drive to the crater rim and drive to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, journey to Lake Manyara National Park – a small green park with stunning views of the Great Rift Valley walls. The park is fed by underground rivers ensuring an unlimited presence of animals all year round.

During the game drive, you will have a chance to see the rare tree climbing lions resting on tree branches, elephants, zebras among others, flocks of flamingoes on the shores of Lake Manyara and several others aquatic birds.

Day 12: Tarangire National Park and Departure

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park the third-largest national park in Tanzania. This beautiful park is home to large herds of elephants and the massive baobab trees that dot the landscape, during the morning game drive you will see several animals including large herds of elephants, buffaloes, lions, baboons and several bird species.

After the amazing experience, you will embark on a journey to Arusha with en-route lunch. Your guide will drop you off at the airport for your flight back home or to your next destination, bringing your Kenya and Tanzania Adventure to an end.
