Detailed Itinerary of 8 Day Madagascar & Nosy Be beaches (with lemur safaris in Madagascar and southern African safaris)

Day 1: Nosy Be Island 

Your Madagascar Vacation starts with arrival in Nosy Be, a small island off the north-western tip of Madagascar. On arrival you will be collected by a representative of African Vacation Safari and transfer you to your hotel on the west coast.

Nosy Be is the largest of Madagascar’s offshore island, named from a local Malagasy meaning “big island”. The island is also one of the most popular beach holiday destinations in the country, with picturesque beaches and fragrant plants that give it the nickname – Nosy Manitra (the scented island).

Day 2 to 4: Nosy Be Island 

On these days of your Madagascar Vacation there is not set activities leaving you free to explore Nosy Be Island at your own pace, enjoy optional activities as you choose, and relax on the sandy beaches.

Between the volcanic peaks, crater lakes, idyllic beaches, surrounding island, spice plantations, and local markets there are plenty of things to do on Nosy Be Island of Madagascar. You can do a spice tour and visit the daily market in Hell-Ville. Have sundowners at a rustic bar on Mount Passot, taking in the spectacular views of the sacred volcanic crater lakes and surrounding.

 Other activities you can do including boat trips to the smaller islands nearby including Nosy Tanikely and Nosy Komba, visit Komba to look for semi-habituated black lemurs, fishing trips and catamaran sailing excursions as well as scuba diving trips.

Day 5: Nosy Be to Antananarivo to Andasibe Reserve 

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast at the beach hotel, set off for the airport to catch a flight to Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar – the fifth largest island in the world.

On arrival, you will be meet by our African Vacation Safari guide at the airport and transfer to Andasibe. We drive from the Central Highlands of Madagascar through the lush vegetation of the humid eastern region, passing rugged mountains dotted with Merine villages.

After settling in at your hotel, we embark on a night walk if time allows. The walk takes us into the forest of the Andasibe area to spot nocturnal lemurs and other strange and rare creatures. After the exhilarating night walk, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Natural Reserve of Andasibe 

After breakfast we head into the Special Reserve of Andasibe – the southern section of the larger Andasibe – Mantadia National Park. Explore Andasibe in search of forest dwellers especially the famous lemurs of Madagascar long with other unusual creatures and plants found here. Andasibe is the best place to see the largest lemurs found in Madagascar – the Indri Indri known as Babakoto in Malagasy.

The park is also home to 11 other lemur species, including the endangered diademed sifaka and black and white ruffed lemurs.

Return to your lodge for lunch and then go for a visit to a community conservation initiative. The community reserves helps create sustainable livelihoods for the locals through reforestation projects, whilst helping to protect the rainforests of Madagascar. Keep an eye out for resident wildlife species, ranging from brown lemurs, and Indri to various chameleons, geckos and birds.

Day 7: Andasibe to Antananarivo 

After breakfast at the hotel, we embark on a return journey to Antananarivo. Along the way, we stop for lunch at the Reptile & Butterfly Farm.

In the evening you will have dinner at the hotel, have dinner and overnight.
