This national park in Mozambique is located in the Mambone district, close to the Save River in Inhambane province, covering an area of 400,000 square kilometers. The park encompasses sections of the banks of the Save River and was initially designated as a hunting zone in Mozambique, similar to Banhine National Park, in June 1972. It forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, which also includes the renowned Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The park features flooded pans in the northeast, adjacent to the river and characterized by sandy soils. The park features over 40 distinct species of grasses, a riverine forest, miombo woodlands, open woodlands, and, naturally, wetlands.

The park is home to a variety of animals, including the spotted hyena, wildebeest, sable antelope, hartebeest, reedbuck, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, elephant, buffalo, black rhino, eland, roan antelope, and many more. Among the birds in the park is the ostrich, recognized as the largest bird in the world.
