Day 1-2 : Transfer from Windhoek to Desert Rhino Camp
Fly from Johannesburg to Windhoek. Upon your arrival, our representative will be there to greet you and assist you with the check-in process for your journey to the stunning Damaraland region of Namibia, celebrated for its unique arid landscapes. Desert Rhino Camp is a simple tented camp nestled among the rocky formations of the Palmwag Concession. The exceptional staff at Desert Rhino Camp truly excel in creating a welcoming atmosphere, whether through captivating stories, drinks by the campfire, or delightful dinners enjoyed under a starry sky. Encountering the critically endangered black rhino is a standout experience during any visit here. It is a privilege to embark on this journey with dedicated conservationists to monitor rhinos both by vehicle and on foot, as the camp operates in partnership with the “Save the Rhino Trust.” In the area, one can find spotted hyenas, giraffes, mountain zebras, gemsboks (oryx), and black-backed jackals, among other animals.
Day 3 -5 : Discover Desert Adapted Wildlife
Discover another intriguing part of the Palmwag Concession by taking a flight to the north. The stylish and modern Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, set in the unique landscapes of the genuine Namib Desert, will serve as your residence for the upcoming three nights. This region is home to a surprisingly diverse array of species, including enormous elephants that have adapted to desert life, as well as lions, giraffes, gemsboks, and springboks. Relax on the shaded deck of your luxurious tent between drives and watch for wildlife at the camp waterhole. A trip to the Skeleton Coast is an essential experience. As you approach the shoreline adorned with a scattering of rusty ships and a substantial colony of Cape fur seals, the journey leads you past towering sand dunes and unexpected oases. A beautiful flight back to camp concludes the wonderful day.
Day 6 -8: Discover Peaceful Oasis to Kunene River
Your final destination is one of the most secluded camps in southern Africa, located in the northernmost part of Namibia. Unlike the lunar-like Namib Desert, Serra Cafema Camp is nestled among shade-providing trees along the banks of the Kunene River. Select from a leisurely stroll along the river valley, an exhilarating quad-biking adventure on the sand dunes, or scenic drives through nature. Crocodiles and water birds seem to stand out in this distinctive setting, making early morning boat safaris particularly delightful as the golden light reveals the vibrant hues of the desert. Exploring the Himba people to gain insight into their customs and semi-nomadic lifestyle is another notable experience, especially since they are located nearby. After an exhilarating day in the desert, retreat to your camp’s refreshing oasis and relish the soothing sound of the rapids below.
Day 9: Departure
You enjoy a last breakfast with a view of the Kunene River before boarding a small plane to Windhoek. Subsequently, a flight takes you back to Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport, allowing you to arrange your next travel plans.
