Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge : A famous community-owned property within the Volcanoes National Park! Sabyinyo Silverback Gorilla Lodge is one of the properties that guests wishing for a premium stay in Volcanoes National Park can choose from. The Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is conveniently located near to the Volcanoes National Park Headquarters. The Volcanoes National Park headquarters is where visitors will gather to receive a briefing on most of the park’s activities.
The Volcanoes National Park is home to endangered mountain gorillas and provides mountain gorilla trekking experiences for $1,500 per person. The Volcanoes National Park is located in Rwanda and is only a two-hour and thirty-minute drive from Kigali, the capital city and the site of Kigali International Airport. This park also provides golden monkey trekking, cultural tours, mountain treks, and bird watching safaris.
The Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is an excellent alternative for spending your nights in between activities in Volcanoes National Park, and here are a few reasons why. The Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge was Rwanda’s first ever community-owned lodge. The Sabyinyo silverback lodge was created and is administered by the Governor’s Camp Collection, but the ownership rights belong to the Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association (SACOLA), which was established in 2006. 15 years later, more than 5,000 households in the neighborhood have participated in this effort.
The Sabyinyo Community Livelihood Association (SACOLA)’s primary goal is to promote socioeconomic activities and conservation in the park’s surrounding communities. This is accomplished through the use of the rent fee and community fees collected from each night stay sold at the lodge. A stay at the Sabyinyo silver back lodge provides a true mountain gorilla trekking experience, as guests can take an on-foot transfer from the lodge to the park reception for the briefing.
Guests who have spent the night at the magnificent and yet warm Sabyinyo Silver back lodge have the option of starting the experience by walking from the lodge to the briefing area or driving if they prefer. The Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is located at the foothills of the famous Virunga ranges and is named after Mount Sabyinyo.
The Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge provides stunning vistas of these volcanic mountains, as well as a breath of fresh air from all areas of the lodge, fitting in with the surrounding countryside. The lodge has guest cottages and a main lounging facility designed to ensure that guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay. This resort will provide the best luxury African safari experience.
The Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge now only has six cottage rooms, two suites, and one family cottage available to serve guests traveling as a family who wish to be near to one another.
All of the buildings at this resort are environmentally friendly and were constructed using stone and volcanic rock from the area’s former volcanic activity. Terracotta tile, a common building material in Rwanda, is utilized for the roofs. All of the accommodations include huge living areas with fireplaces to keep tourists comfortable during the cold nights in Volcanoes National Park.
Each cottage room features a big en-suite bathroom with a Venetian plaster finish, a dressing area, and a shaded verandah. The family cottage is a larger space, with two distinct en-suite rooms joined by a communal verandah. The main building has a greeting area, a lounge with a cozy area, a dining space, a library and games room, and a craft shop with all-access washrooms. You can also visit the community awareness room to gain insight into the community’s activities.
While inside the main building, you can also spend some time by the three enormous fire places to stay warm. All of the rooms at the Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge have wooden polished floors and a patio where visitors may spend quality time looking at the Virunga mountains in the distance, which are bordered by farmland.

The Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge also boasts a spa and trained masseuses who are always available to treat you in the privacy of your own room after a day of activities in the park. Please contact us and allow us to book your stay at our wonderful community-centered facility.
The lodge has eight cottages for double/twin, single, and family occupancy, all with breathtaking and spectacular views of the Virunga volcanoes from their private protected balconies, where you may rest, eat breakfast, read a book, or marvel at the vistas. The cottages are well spaced, providing good privacy, and inside the rooms, they are spacious, consisting of a sitting room area with a fireplace, bedroom, dressing room, 24 hour electricity, and a large bathroom with bath and shower with hot and cold running water. Because the lodge is located at approximately 2,150 meters, it can get quite misty and cool, so warming facilities are provided, including warm beddings.
Other amenities at the lodge include a library and games area in the main lodge, a bar and restaurant serving full course meals, and a 24-hour front desk with well-trained staff available to assist you. The lodge also offers a community awareness center where you can learn more about Rwanda’s initiatives to safeguard endangered mountain gorillas and promote socioeconomic development.
