Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
On the 1st day of the safari, your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris, will pick you up from Kigali International Airport or from your hotel in Kigali, he will welcome you and brief you about the 5 days safari, after you will enjoy Kigali city tour that is exploring the famous attractions like Kimironko market this is where you can interact with the local people of Rwanda as you grab yourself a souvenir, as well you will visit Kigali Genocide memorial grounds for the story of the 1994 Rwanda genocide, and later you will enjoy your lunch in Kigali. After lunch you will be transferred to Volcanoes National Park which is a home of the famous primates that is both the mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys and these can be spotted on two different safari activities that is golden monkey trekking and the mountain gorilla trekking. Along the way you will have the perfect views of the land of the 1000 hills with the various attractions that can be spotted which offers you the best memories, along the way you will watch various people doing their daily safari activities, watching various coffee plantations along the slopes of the different hills. As you proceed with your journey to the park, and one you arrive you will check in your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking.
On the 2nd day of the safari, you will wake up early in the morning and enjoy the hearty breakfast. After breakfast you will meet your safari guide together with your packed lunch and go for the gorilla trekking experience. You will be transferred to the park headquarters to the Kinigi reception area where you will receive the briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will then be transferred to hike the Virunga Mountain to look for the mountain gorillas with the experienced guides and rangers. During mountain gorilla trekking you will be attracted by the various attractions like the various bird species like African Rwenzori, double collared sunbird, Ruwenzori turaco, eagle handsome Francolin, and others, and you will spot other primates like red tailed monkeys, silver monkeys and among many others, you will spot various plant species, tree species and among others.
And when you find the mountain gorillas you will be given a period of one hour to be in the presence of the gorillas that is watching the gorillas feeding, female gorillas grooming their young ones, and among others, like taking their pictures and recording their videos. After the experience you will be transferred back to the starting point to where you will be rewarded with the gorilla trekking certificates for taking part in gorilla trekking. After you will enjoy the Iby’iwacu cultural village for you perfect cultural experience of the people living around as this is where you are going to interact with them and among others. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Kigali and connect for your international flight to Kenya.
On the 3rd day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your breakfast at your lodge. After taking breakfast you will check out of your lodge and meet your driver guide and transfer you Kigali International Airport in time to catch your international flight out to Nairobi Kenya where your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris will be waiting for you and welcome you to Kenya. You will leave Jomo Kenyatta airport, and transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve, with the best views along the way heading to Maasai Mara, upon your arrival you will check inn your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 4: Morning game drive and afternoon game drive.
On the 4th of the safari, wake up early in the morning and be served with a hearty breakfast, after you will meet your safari guide and go in the reserve for the morning game drive, this is where you are going to experience and witness abundant of the wildlife in the reserve. You will explore the Mara River where you will spot diverse numbers of the crocodiles, hippos and other aquatic animals can be spotted, as well as Talek area known for its abundant numbers of lions, cheetahs. Other best spot areas in the reserve includes Sekenani and Sand River area, which are the prime habitats for the leopards, elephants and giraffes and among others. After the morning game drive you will be transferred back to your lodge and be served with lunch.
After lunch, you will meet your safari guide and transfer back to the reserve to do an afternoon game drive, this is where you will spot diverse numbers of animals that you missed during the morning game drive.
During the afternoon game drive you will see diverse wildlife around the Oloololo Escarpment that offers the stunning backdrop for spotting elephants, giraffes, antelopes, and others, the Mara Triangle offers you the wonderful hotspot for the big cats like the lions, cheetahs, you as can well explore around the Musiara swamp a favorite haunt of hippos, crocodiles and a variety of the birdlife thus providing endless opportunities for exciting wildlife encounters. After the afternoon game drive you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Drive back to Nairobi to catch your flight back home.
On the final day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast, you will check out from your lodge and meet your safari guide and depart back to Nairobi, in the morning you will enjoy the enroute morning game drive to watch the early risers that includes the rhinos, lions, buffaloes, elephants and leopards, giraffes, hyenas and among others in the beautiful landscapes. After you will proceed to Nairobi with the stunning views along the way, you will have an enroute lunch on the way and after lunch you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back home, and this will make your safari come to the end.
