Beginning in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National park you will trek to see the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat, before crossing into Tanzania to explore the country’s northern safari circuit, including Tarangire National park’s baobab-studded savannah, Lake Manyara National Park’s alkaline lake and lush forests, and then Ngorongoro Conservation Area’s crater, home to the big five mammals.
Next you will venture into the Serengeti National Park, renowned for its Great Migration of the wildebeests, zebras and gazelles and finally, you will cross into Kenya to experience the Maasai Mara National Reserve’s abundant wildlife including the lions, leopards, elephants, and giraffes, amidst its rolling hills, grasslands and acacia trees. Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Kigali city tour, transfer to Ruhengeri and then Volcanoes National park.
On the 1st day of the safari, your safari representative from African Vacation Safaris will welcome you through picking you either at your hotel in Kigali or from Kigali international Airport. After you will transfer to Kigali city tour to where you will explore various attractions like Kimironko market, Gisozi genocide memorial site and among other sites. After the experience you be transferred to the restaurant and then enjoy your lunch. After lunch you will be transferred to Musanze that is close town to Volcanoes National Park that is located in the northern province of Rwanda in the evening. After you will be transferred to your lodge/hotel for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Iby’wacu cultural experience.
On the 2nd day of the safari, you will wake up early in the morning and enjoy the hearty breakfast. After breakfast you will meet your safari guide together with your packed lunch and go for the gorilla trekking experience. You will be transferred to the park headquarters to the Kinigi reception area where you will receive the briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking at 7:00am. After the briefing you will then be transferred to hike the Virunga Mountain to look for the mountain gorillas with the experienced guides and rangers. Gorilla trekking takes from about 2 hours to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorilla’s because these creatures do move around looking for the food.
During mountain gorilla trekking you will be attracted by the various attractions like the various bird species like African Rwenzori, double collared sunbird, Ruwenzori turaco, eagle handsome Francolin, and others, and you will spot other primates like red tailed monkeys, silver monkeys and among many others, you will spot various plant species, tree species and among others. And when you find the mountain gorillas you will be given a period of one hour to be in the presence of the gorillas that is watching the gorillas feeding, female gorillas grooming their young ones, and among others, like taking their pictures and recording their videos. After the experience you will be transferred back to the starting point to where you will be rewarded with the gorilla trekking certificates for taking part in gorilla trekking. Later you will engage in Iby’wacu cultural experience that offers you a unique and immersive experience into the traditional way of life of the Rwandan people. During this enriching experience, you will have the opportunity to learn about their customs, traditions and engage with the community through music, dance and storytelling. You will also participate in a range of activities like archery, basket weaving and traditional cooking, and among others. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Dian Fossey hiking and transfer to Kigali-Fly to Arusha.
On the 3rd day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy delicious breakfast and then meet your safari guide with your packed lunch and then transfer to the park headquarters and this is when you will receive the Dian Fossey trekking at Karisoke Research Center. The Dian Fossey trek is adventurous experience that takes you to the grave site of the renowned American zoologist, Dain Fossey that dedicated her life to studying and protecting mountain gorillas. As you hike through the lush rainforest, you will learn about the Fossey’s remarkable life, her tireless advocacy for gorilla conservation and the tragic circumstances of her death. The trek culminated at Fossey’s grave site, where you will pay tribute to her legacy and witness the stunning views of the surrounding mountains, a fitting tribute to her enduring impact on gorilla conservation that’s takes and lasts 6 to 7 hours whereas Golden monkey trekking that will take you 3 to 4 hours. After the experience you will be dropped off at Kigali international Airport for your flight from Kigali to Arusha, and once you arrive your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris in Tanzania will transfer you to your hotel in Arusha for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Tarangire National Park.
On the 4th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast, after breakfast your safari guide will brief you about the safari in Tanzania. You will embark on your journey to Tarangire National Park, with the perfect views along the way and once you arrive you will check in your lodge and enjoy your lunch. After lunch you will go for the afternoon game drive experience. During the afternoon experience you will spot the various wildlife grazing and roaring in the national park like the elands, cheetahs, impalas, antelopes, giraffes, leopards, lions, buffaloes, wildebeests, and among many others without forgetting the various bird species around the park, as you enjoy the sunset and the wonderful landscape surrounding you. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Manyara National Park.
On the 5th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy a hearty breakfast. After breakfast you will check out from your lodge and meet your safari guide and prepare to depart to Lake Manyara National Park the home for thousands of the pink flamingos, tree climbing lions. Along the way existing from your lodge you will have the enroute game drive to where you will spot the early risers like lions, elephants, giraffes and among others. You will embark on your journey to Lake Manyara national park, you will have the magnificent views of the landscape and many others. And once you arrive, you will check in your lodge and be served with lunch. After lunch you will meet your safari guide and go for the afternoon game drive, during the game drive you will spot the tree-climbing lions that can be spotted lazing in the branches of the acacia trees, as well you will explore the lake’s shoreline the forested areas and among others, this is where you will spot diverse animal species like elephants, hippos, giraffes and a variety of the antelopes like impalas, wildebeests, and zebras and among others and various over 400 bird species like the pink flamingos, pelicans, eagles and among others. After the experience you will be transferred back to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 6: Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation area.
On the 6th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast, check out from lodge with your packed lunch and transfer to Ngorongoro conservation area, with the enroute game drive this is when you will spot the diverse early risers. After you will exist the park and head to Ngorongoro conservation area, with the stunning views and once you arrive you will descend to Ngorongoro crater to see various attractions like Lake Magadi that is located in the middle of the crater, as you explore the Ngorongoro crater you will spot the various flamingos along the lake shores in the large numbers and various bird species. You will spot other wildlife around the crater like elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, hyenas, kudus, lions, cheetahs, leopards and among others. You will as well spot the wonderful views of the landscape surrounding the Ngorongoro Conservation area. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer to Serengeti national park.
On the 7th day, of the safari get up early in the morning and be served with a hearty breakfast. After breakfast, you will check out from your lodge and meet safari guide and transfer to Serengeti national park. As you lodge you will the wonderful views of the early risers including the lions, buffaloes, elephants, leopards and others, along the day you will experience the perfect views until you reach the park. As you enter the park, the air is filled with the sweet scent of the acacia trees and the sounds of the birdsong and wildlife signaling your arrival in one of Africa’s most wonderful national parks, where Great migration and an incredible variety of wildlife. Upon your arrival, you will check in your lodge and enjoy lunch. After lunch, you will go for the afternoon game driving experience where you will spot the big five mammals that includes the rhinos, buffaloes, elephants, rhinos, leopards and among others that includes impalas, elands, zebras, and others minus bird species like secretary bird, kori bustards, Lilac-breasted Roller, European Roller, African Scoops Owl, Klaas’s Cuckoo, and among others. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 8 and 9: Full day in Serengeti National Park.
On the 8th and 9th day of the safari, get up early in the morning and enjoy a hearty breakfast, after breakfast meet your safari guide and go for the morning game drive, where you will spot the variety of the wildlife species and enjoy looking out them grazing in the open savannah of the park like cheetahs, giraffes, gazelles, buffaloes, antelopes, wildebeests, hippos and others. After the experience, you will drive to your lodge for lunch.
After lunch, you will go for the afternoon game drive which is a thrilling experience that offers you unique perspective on the park’s incredible wildlife, during the afternoon game drive is the ideal time to spot the big five mammals as well as cheetahs, hyenas and other many predators, in the best spots that includes the Seronera valley that is known for its abundant lions and leopards, the Retina Hippo pool where you can spot hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat, the endless plains where you can witness the Great migration of the wildebeests, zebras and gazelles. After the experience you will transfer to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 10: Transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve.
On the 10th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your hearty breakfast, after breakfast you will check out from your lodge and meet your safari guide and transfer to Maasai Mara National Reserve with the enroute lunch while using the Isebania border where you will clear with customs and your Kenyan guide from African Vacation Safaris will welcome you and then you will proceed to your lodge in Maasai Mara and upon your arrival you will check in and have your dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 11: Full day in Maasai Mara National Reserve.
On the 11th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your breakfast, after taking your breakfast your safari guide will transfer you to the reserve for the morning game drive to where you will enjoy spotting various wildlife like the big five mammals that includes the lions, buffaloes, rhinos, elephants and leopards and among others like topis, cheetahs, hyenas, duikers, jackals, and among others.
After the experience you will enjoy lunch in the wildlife as you enjoy the perfect views of the landscape. After lunch, you will go for the more wildlife safari experience that is the afternoon game drive you will explore the Mara River to spot the rich wildlife including the large herds of the wildebeests, zebras and antelopes. This is also a prime spot to see the Big five mammals like rhinos, buffaloes, leopards, elephants and lions and among others like cheetahs, hyenas and other predators. The Mara River itself is a great spot to see the hippos, crocodiles and other aquatic wildlife while the surrounding grasslands and woodlands are home to a wide variety of birdlife. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 12: Transfer to Nairobi.
On the last day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your hearty breakfast. After breakfast you will check out from your lodge and meet your safari guide for the departure to Nairobi. As you exist your lodge you will have the enroute game drive to spot the early risers in the reserve including the famous big five mammals that includes the lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, leopards and among others like zebras, giraffes, cheetahs and among others without forgetting the bird species. After you will proceed with your journey to Nairobi and once you arrive in Nairobi you will have lunch and after lunch you will be transferred to your preferred location either Jomo Kenyatta international Airport or to your hotel in Nairobi that will make your safari come to the end.
