Beginning with Akagera national park you will go on a thrilling game drive to spot the big five mammals including the lions, buffaloes, leopards, elephants and rhinos amidst the park’s stunning savannah, next you will explore Volcanoes National Park where you will trek to see the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat and visit Iby’Iwacu village to experience the traditional way of life of the Rwandan people. From there, you will explore Nyungwe Forest National Park home of the variety primates to trek the chimpanzees. And finally you will visit a tea plantation to learn about Rwanda’s famous tea production, and enjoy the scenic drive through the rolling hills and picturesque villages of the country side, creating lifelong memories of Rwanda’s breathtaking natural beauty, fascinating cultures, and warm hospitality.

Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Akagera National Park and afternoon game drive.
On the 1st day of the safari, your safari guide from African Vacation Safaris, will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali or from Kigali International Airport. He will welcome you and belief you about the 6 days safari. After the beliefing you will embark on your journey to Akagera national park. This is a scenic of 2.5 hour drive that takes you through Rwanda’s picturesque countryside, passing through the rolling hills, verdant valleys, and quaint villages, As you leave Kigali, the capital city’s urban landscape gradually gives way to rural scenery, with farmers tending to their fields and among others. And once you arrive you will check in your lodge and be served with lunch. After lunch you will meet your safari guide and go for the afternoon game drive this is where you will spot the big five mammals that includes the lions, buffaloes, rhinos, elephants and leopards and among many others without forgetting the bird species. After the experience you will be transferred back to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning game drive and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
On the 2nd day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast, check out from your lodge and meet your safari guide and go for the morning game drive to spot the various animal species that you missed during the previous game drive, you will get the chance to spot the early risers. After the experience you will embark on your journey to Volcanoes National park with a stopover in Kigali city for lunch. After lunch you will proceed with your journey to Volcanoes National park and once you arrive you will engage yourself on a cultural tour to visit the Iby’wacu village also known as the Gorilla Guardians Village, that’s when you will interact with the locals enjoy their traditional songs, you will dress in their traditional attire and also visit the King’s palace and among others. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking.
On the 3rd day of the safari, you will wake up early in the morning and enjoy the hearty breakfast. After breakfast you will meet your safari guide together with your packed lunch and go for the gorilla trekking experience. You will be transferred to the park headquarters to the Kinigi reception area where you will receive the briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will then be transferred to hike the Virunga Mountain to look for the mountain gorillas with the experienced guides and rangers.
During mountain gorilla trekking you will be attracted by the various attractions like the various bird species like African Rwenzori, double collared sunbird, Ruwenzori turaco, eagle handsome Francolin, and others, and you will spot other primates like red tailed monkeys, silver monkeys and among many others, you will spot various plant species, tree species and among others. And when you find the mountain gorillas you will be given a period of one hour to be in the presence of the gorillas that is watching the gorillas feeding, female gorillas grooming their young ones, and among others, like taking their pictures and recording their videos.
After the experience you will be transferred back to the starting point to where you will be rewarded with the gorilla trekking certificates for taking part in gorilla trekking. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park and canopy walk experience.
On the 4th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will check out from your lodge and meet your safari guide and then transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way you will explore the stunning landscapes, passing through the tea plantations.
You will have the opportunities to stop at the local tea factories, visit traditional villages, and take in the views of Lake Kivu which is one of the Africa’s Great Lakes, before arriving at Nyungwe Forest national park the home of the various primates, bird species and other animal species.

And once you arrive you will check in your lodge and enjoy your lunch. After lunch you will for the canopy walk experience, this is a thrilling adventure that takes you high above the forest floor, offering a unique perspective on the park’s lush canopy and its inhabitants. Suspended 200 feet above the ground, the 200-meter-long canopy walkway provides breathtaking views of the surrounding forest, with glimpses of sparkling waterfalls, towering trees, and a variety of birdlife, including the hornbills, turacos, sunbirds and among others. As you walk along the sturdy, yet flexible, walkway, you will feel as though you are floating among the treetops, that offers you unforgettable safari experience. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and tea tour.
On the 5th day, of the safari wake up early in the morning and enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast you will meet your safari guide with your packed lunch and you will be transferred at the park headquarters for the briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing, you will be grouped in various groups of 6 people per group and you will be start your chimpanzee trekking in the forest with the experienced rangers and park guides. Chimpanzee trekking in the park takes a period from 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzees. And once the chimpanzees are spotted you will be given one hour to be in the presence of the chimpanzees as you watch the chimpanzees jumping from one tree to another, chattering and laughing, feeding, you will take pictures and record their movies. After the one hour of the experience you will be transferred back to the starting point and this where you will be rewarded with chimpanzee trekking certificates for taking part in chimpanzee trekking.
Later you will be transferred to visit Gisakura tea estate for a tour of the tea fields and learn how tea in Rwanda is processed both local and international consumption and among others. After the experience you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 6: Departure.
On the last day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. After breakfast you will check out from your lodge and proceed with your journey back to Kigali. And once you arrive you will engage yourself in Kigali city tour if you have time, and have lunch. Later you will be transferred to your convenient place that is either Kigali international Airport or to hotel in Kigali that will make your safari come to the end.
