Lake Mburo National Park

Covering 370km2, Lake Mburo might be Uganda’s smallest savannah park, but that doesn’t mean it has less to offer. Far from it, it is a thriving destination where game drives, boat cruises and nature walks always end on a high note. This is partly thanks to the abundance of several wildlife species that are hard to come by in other parks around the country. This includes the biggest antelope species in Africa, the elands. Other great additions include impalas, toppi, defassa waterbuck, oribi, reedbuck, buffalo and hyenas.

In terms of scenery, the park is dominated by an open savanna, rocky ridges, riparian woodland and forested gorges. It is named after a chain of 13 freshwater lakes that are interlinked by a 50Km wetland system where you are certain of finding hippos, crocodiles and countless bird species.

Zebras

If you wish to see the biggest zebra population in Uganda and Rwanda, Lake Mburo will make your wish come true with its abundance of close to 10,000, as made possible by the low number of predators. In an effort to boost the park’s portfolio, 15 giraffes were translocated to it four years back, but there is a great chance they will be 25 of even more by the time of your arrival. Why? They have successfully adapted to the new environment.

The park’s small size makes it a good destination for a family safari. Thanks to its location half way between Uganda’s capital and the south western corner of the country, Mburo offers a perfect stopover for clients before or after their gorilla trek in Bwindi.

Bird watching

This very scenic savannah park is great for encounters with above 310 bird species with some rarities among them like the shoebill.
