The 5 Days Rwanda Gorilla and Congo Eastern Lowland Gorilla Safari is an extraordinary adventure that takes you on a thrilling journey to encounter two of the rarest and most majestic great ape species in the world. This unforgettable experience begins in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park where you will trek through the rainforests to find the incredible mountain gorillas, in their natural habitats. From there, you will be transferred to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Kahuzi Beiga National Park home to the endangered Eastern Lowland gorillas.

Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
On the first day of the safari, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali or picked up from Kigali International Airport by our representative from African Vacation Safaris. After you will be welcomed and introduced about the 5days safari. After the beliefing you will either opt to do Kigali city tour or be transferred direct to Volcanoes National Park depending on your time of arrival. Later you will be served with dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking experience.
On the 2nd day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your breakfast. After your breakfast, you will be transferred to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park for the briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking by the park guides and rangers. After the briefing you will be transferred to the forest to look for the colorful and attractive mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking in the park takes about a period of about 30 minutes to 3 hours regarding on the location of the gorillas. During the experience its such rewarding especially for the first timers, and once the gorillas are spotted you will be given a period of one hour and that’s when you will watch the gorillas feeding, watching the gorillas making their nests for their next nights, watching the female gorilla grooming their young ones, taking their pictures and recording their movies and among others. After the experience you will be transferred back to the lodge for lunch. Later in the afternoon you will participate in the community walk around the surrounding communities of the forest, interacting with the local people and learning about their way of life and among others. After the experience you will be transferred back to your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 3: transfer to Bakavu Democratic republic of Congo.
On the 3rd day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your breakfast, after having your breakfast you will check out from your lodge and meet your safari guide and transfer to Democratic Republic of Congo. You will begin with your journey along with the impressive views along the way towards using Cyangugu border to enter to Democratic Republic of Congo. And once you reach Congo you will visit the national museum in Butare, the King’s palace in Nyanzi and then the genocide site and with enroute lunch in Butare which is the second largest city after Kigali, with the clear views of Lake Kivu which is Rwanda’s largest fresh water lake. After you will proceed on your journey and once you arrive you will check in your lodge for dinner, relaxation and overnight.
Day 4: Eastern Lowland gorilla trekking.
On the 4th day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast, meet your safari guide and transfer at the park headquarters for your second gorilla trekking activity in Kahuzi Beiga national park. Your safari will start with a beliefing about the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking by the park guides and park rangers. You will explore the forest and start looking for the eastern lowland gorillas that are bigger than the mountain gorillas, during on the way looking for the eastern lowland gorillas you will explore the Tshibati waterfalls, and among others, and once the gorillas are located you will be given a period of one hour to be in the presence of the gorillas, that is watching them feed, watching them play, mothers grooming their young ones and many others. After the experience you will be transferred back to your lodge for lunch and relaxation, and later you will be served with dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.

Day 5: Departure.
On the last day of the safari, wake up early in the morning and enjoy your hearty breakfast. After breakfast you will check out from your lodge and meet your safari then prepare on your border through crossing Cyangungu border. With the impressive views along the way and enroute lunch along the way, and you will reach in Kigali in the afternoon and later you will be dropped to your convenient place that is either at Kigali International Airport for your flight back home or dropped at your hotel in Kigali that will make your safari come to the end.
