Detailed itinerary of 20 Day Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Akagera National Park

African Vacation Safaris Driver Guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport or your hotel in Kigali after breakfast and depart for Akagera National Park – the only savannah national park in Rwanda and home to the Big Five.

The journey takes about 3 hours with stopovers en-route for photo moment of the beautiful landscapes and use the washrooms. Arrive at the park in time for lunch after check and later go for a game drive searching for the park’s remarkable wildlife.

Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

Wake early for breakfast and leave for Akagera National Park for a morning game drive, search for elephants, giraffes, rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes and several antelope species among others. Most of the game drives in Akagera National Park are done in the northern part of the park where we will spend the better part of the day and return to the lodge later for lunch.

In the afternoon you will head to Lake Ihema for a boat ride, enjoy the calm serenity of the lake and as you glide on the calm waters, you will see several animals such as hippos and crocodiles in the waters and zebras, elephants and several water birds along the shores of the lake. Retire to your lodge, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Ruhengeri to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, embark on a journey to Volcanoes National Park where the gentle giants thrive. The misty forest provides a natural habitat for the mountain gorillas providing the perfect environment and food for the gorillas providing the perfect environment for the endangered gorillas.

 Along the way you will have stops for pictures at different viewpoints while enjoying magnificent views of the green hills, get to understand why Rwanda is called the Land of a thousand hills. Arrive in the park in the late evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early for breakfast, meet your guide and head to the Volcanoes National Park Headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about mountain gorillas, register for this thrilling experience and in groups of 8 people, you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek. With your armed rangers and hired porters, head to the starting point, enter in the forests of Volcanoes National Park looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 30 minutes to 6 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Once you locate these gentle giants, you will be allowed to spend only in their presence as they feed, groom each other under a watchful gaze of a silverback. You are allowed to take as many photos as you wish, as long as your flashlight is off.

Return to the starting point, meet your driver-guide and return to your lodge for an evening of rest.

Day 5: Transfer to Uganda

After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and depart for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda with border crossing at Katuna border, clear with the immigration authorities and continue to the park arriving in the afternoon.

Check in at your lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the day at relaxation as you prepare for the next day’s adventure.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi

Enjoy early breakfast and head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with your packed lunch boxes for another gorilla trekking experience. First you will have a briefing session at the park headquarters conducted by a ranger guide, be assigned a gorilla family to trek in groups of 8 people. Head to the trail head and hike into the impenetrable forest in search for these endangered primates, the trek takes approximately 2 hours to 6 hours with one hour of being in their presence. Watch the whole family going on with their life, females caring for their young and silverback protecting the family.

Trek back to the park headquarters and return to your lodge for an afternoon or relaxation. Alternatively, you can head to the Batwa Community for an interaction with the Batwa people. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast you will check out of your lodge and embark on a journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park with a drive through the Ishasha Sector where you will have a chance to see the rare tree climbing lions as you drive to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon you will head to Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise, the channel connects Lake Edward to Lake George and as you glide on the calm waters, you will enjoy views of different animals including hippos and crocodiles in the waters, elephants and buffaloes along the shores of the crater and several beautiful water bird species. Later continue with a game drive as you head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Morning game drive and transfer to Kibale Forest

Wake up early for breakfast and head to the park’s Kasenyi plains for a morning game drive, this region is a breeding site for Uganda Kobs which attract predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas and African wild dogs and if you are lucky you will see a hunt. Other animals to lookout for include elephants, buffaloes, warthogs and several antelopes.

Return to your lodge for lunch and later embark on a journey to Kibale Forest National Park – a primate haven with 13 primate species and the largest population of chimpanzees in Africa. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Chimpanzee Trekking

Today you will have an exciting encounter with the playful chimpanzees. Enjoy early breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing about this exhilarating experience, with an armed ranger and guides, you will head into the rainforests of Kibale Forest looking for the chimpanzees. Unlike mountain gorillas, chimpanzees are very vocal and you will hear them from a distance, they are also mobile so you have to keep up with them as they move.

You will spend one hour with them as they jump from one tree branch to another, pick fruits and playful with each other. After this mind-blowing experience, you will return to your lodge and spend the rest of the day at rest. Have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Enjoy breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on a journey to Murchison Falls National Park. Along the way you will enjoy spectacular views of the changing landscapes and the local people going on with their life and enjoy en-route lunch. Arrive in late afternoon, enter the park and head the top of the beautiful Murchison Falls, watch River Nile as it squeezes through a narrow gorge to form the most powerful falls in the world. Head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Morning game drive and Ziwa Rhino sanctuary and transfer to Kampala

Wake up early for breakfast and head to Murchison Falls National Park for a morning game on which you will have a chance to see several animals including giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, warthogs and several bird species.

Depart for Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where you will track the endangered rhinos on foot, this sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can encounter these endangered species in their natural habitat. Enjoy lunch and embark on a journey to Kampala arriving in the evening, check in at your hotel in Entebbe, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 12: Transfer to Nairobi

Depending on your flight schedule, your driver guide will drive you to Entebbe International Airport for your flight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. You will be collected by African Vacation Safari Kenya Safari Guide and transfer you to your city hotel. Spend the rest of the day at rest, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 13: Transfer to Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel by your driver guide and embark on a 2 hours’ drive to the beautiful Lake Naivasha, a rift valley lake famous for hosting large flocks of flamingoes. With your packed lunch, you will go on a boat cruise on this beautiful lake head to the Crescent Island found in the middle of the lake for a guided walking safari. Enjoy a close encounter with several animals including giraffes, zebras, warthogs, gazelles and several bird species.

Enjoy picnic lunch and continue exploring the island till sunset, on the boat cruise you will head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 14: Transfer to Nakuru National Park

After breakfast you will depart for Lake Nakuru National Park which is also found in the Rift Valley, when you arrive in the park you will go on a game drive as head to your lodge for check-in, lunch and refreshing.

In the afternoon you will go on a game drive exploring the savannah plains searching and enjoying sight of several animals including lions, Rothschild giraffes, buffaloes, gazelles, warthogs and the occasional leopards. You will also visit Lake Nakuru where you will see flocks of flamingoes and other water birds including cormorants and crested cranes among others.

Day 15: Transfer to Maasai Mara

With en-route game drive after breakfast, you will depart to Maasai Mara National Park – one of the few places left on earth where wildlife still thrives comparatively undisturbed, in the numbers that once roamed the plains and forests of Africa.

Arrive in the reserve in time for lunch and have a short rest, in the afternoon you head to the endless savannah plains of Maasai Mara for an afternoon game drive. Return to your lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 16: Full day in Maasai Mara

After breakfast, head to the reserve for a full day game drive with packed lunch boxes. Maasai Mara National Reserve is well known for its black-manned lions as well as its abundant resident wildlife including all the members of the Big Five and it is possible to see all of them during the game drives.

During the game drives, you will explore the different regions of the reserve, enjoy scenic views of the endless savanna stretching beyond the eyes can see. Keep an eye out for several animals including lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, gazelles, cheetahs, African wild dogs, giraffes and several colorful bird species.  Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 17: Serengeti National Park

On an en-route game drive you will depart Maasai Mara for Serengeti National Park via Isebania Border, clear with the border authorities and continue to Serengeti with en-route lunch. When you arrive in the park, you will embark on a game drive as you head to your lodge for check-in, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 18: Full day Serengeti

After breakfast you will head to Serengeti Plains with your packed lunch for a full day of exploration. You will enjoy morning and afternoon game drives with picnic lunch served at one of the picnic sites in the park.

This 6,900 square miles of savannah plains dotted with acacia trees is home to more than 2 million large animals including more than a million wildebeests, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras and Thomson’s gazelles. Predators including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are drawn to the park by the abundance of prey which migrates through park. other animals you will see during the game drive including jackals, monkeys, baboons, African hare, mongoose and over 500 bird species. After sunset, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 19: Transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Wake up early and go for an early morning game drive in the Serengeti plains when the animals are more active, see the best sunrises you will ever witness. After the game drive, return to the lodge for a full breakfast.

Then proceed to Ngorongoro Crater an 8th Wonder of the Natural world. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unfilled caldera in the world spreading for 102 sq miles and has 2,000 ft high walls, making it virtually Noah’s Ark and home to almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa. Arrive in the evening, and head to the crater rim where you will check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 20: Departure

Today you will have an early breakfast, head to Ngorongoro Crater, and descend into the crater floor for an incredible morning game drive in one of the most stunning places on earth. As you drive through the crater floor, lookout for several animals including lion prides, herds of buffaloes and elephants, leopards, African wild dogs, warthogs, wildebeests, hartebeest, zebras among others.

Enjoy picnic lunch and continue with the game drive as you ascend to the crater rim, and embark on a journey back to Arusha where your guide will drop you off at the airport for your flight back home.
