This safari is essential, featuring a combination of South Luangwa National Park, Kasanka National Park, and Bangweulu Wetland. Your journey will begin with a few nights at Luangwa River camp, located in the renowned South Luangwa National Park. Following this, the group will fly to Kasanka National Park, where you will encounter a multitude of bird species that will be new to your safari experience, and you will undoubtedly spot the Sitatunga in the swamps.

Your safari will take you to the Bangweulu Swamps, a true gem in Zambia, renowned for its exceptional birdwatching opportunities, featuring a variety of water birds and the endangered Crane gracefully roaming the plains. Undoubtedly, the standout attraction continues to be the remarkable shoebill. At this time of year, sightings are nearly guaranteed. This region is home to the Tsessebe, buffalo, and the endemic Black Lechwe.

Day 1: Luangwa River Camp

Upon your arrival at Lusaka International Airport, a representative from Robin Pope Safaris will greet you, providing assistance with your luggage and facilitating your check-in for the flight to Mfuwe. Your safari guide will be ready to greet you at Mfuwe airport, where he will transport you to Luangwa River Camp. The journey to camp takes an hour, passing through vibrant local landscapes filled with villages, farmland, and bushland. Luangwa River Camp is situated beneath a timeless ebony grove along the banks of the Luangwa River, providing a view of the game-abundant region referred to as the Luangwa Wafwa. This cozy and exclusive camp features only five bush suites, and its unique setting and location evoke a genuine sense of awe, allowing a romantic ambiance to permeate the entire camp. Your experience will vary based on your arrival time; you may enjoy lunch if you arrive during the day, or partake in tea and an evening game drive if you arrive in the afternoon.

Upon your arrival at Lusaka International Airport, following immigration, our representative will be there to assist you with your luggage and facilitate your check-in for the local flight to Mfuwe. Your flight to Mfuwe takes approximately an hour, and upon arrival, your safari guide will be there to greet you at Mfuwe airport. He will then drive you to Luangwa River Camp, which is about an hour away, offering stunning views of the local villages and the bush along the way. The Camp is situated beneath a timeless ebony grove along the banks of the Luangwa River, providing a view of the game-abundant region referred to as the Luangwa Wafwa.

Day 2: Luangwa River Camp

You will have an entire day to explore Luangwa National Park, either through a 4×4 game drive safari or a walking safari.

Day 3: South Luangwa/Kasanka National Park

This morning, you will enjoy breakfast by the campfire before being transferred to Mfuwe Airport, ensuring you have ample time to catch your 50-minute flight to Kasanka National Park. Depending on your flight time, you might arrive just in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon of bird watching along the Luwombwa River. Fortunately, you might encounter the African finfoot, Ross’ lourie, Pel’s fishing owl, and osprey. Arriving back at camp just in time for dinner, followed by bedtime whenever you choose.

Day 4: Kasanka National Park

Today, you will experience a delightful day of observing birds and game, with the anticipation of encountering various mammal species, including Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, sable antelope, reedbuck, and the elusive blue monkey. Your visit will include the sitatunga hide, offering panoramic views over the Kapabi Swamp, where you may observe up to 40 sitatunga feeding simultaneously.

Day 5: Kasanka National Park / Bangweulu Swamps

After breakfast, you will be transferred by plane to the Bangweulu Swamps, where you will arrive at Shoebill Camp. The search will commence by boat and on foot to locate the Shoebill. You will return to camp in time for lunch and head out again after tea to observe the herds of antelope that the area is renowned for. The dinner is straightforward yet sufficient, followed by an early night.

Day 6: Shoebill Camp

This day will be dedicated to observing birds and appreciating the natural environment. Observe from the hide at dawn or dusk as thousands of waterfowl soar above.

Day 7: Protea Hotel, Lusaka

You will return to Lusaka for an overnight stay before heading back home.

Day 8 : Transfer to Lusaka International Airport

Today, you will be taken back to Lusaka International Airport for your next connection.
