Gorilla Forest Lodge.

Gorilla Forest Lodge is located within the misty embrace of one of Africa’s oldest rainforests lies a place that offers more than just a bed for the night. Gorilla Forest Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary, holds the distinction of being the only luxury lodge situated inside the gates of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwestern Uganda. This ancient forest, which dates back as far as 25,000 years, is home to more than half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Situated atop a flat ridge at a height of about 1,450 meters, the lodge has clear views of the forest canopy and surrounding mountains.

There has been a complete refurbishment of the lodge which was opened again in June 2025 after undergoing a complete redesign to double the size of the bar, restaurant, and terrace areas. This is a former tented camp that has now been converted into an eco-lodge which prides itself in showcasing Ugandan craftsmanship. Its position is unique such that gorilla families occasionally visit the premises. For anyone looking for the perfect gorilla trekking safari experience in Uganda, this is the place to be.

Rooms at Gorilla Forest Lodge.

The rooming facilities at the Gorilla Forest Lodge are made up of ten individual villas with the aim of giving a unique experience of the forest environment. After the reconstruction of the lodge in 2025, the rooms have grown larger in size and are fitted with floor to ceiling windows that make it impossible to separate the interior from the exterior while enjoying the extensive private decking areas that offer views of the forest canopy. The rooms are made using natural materials like banana leaf ceilings and bark cloth.

The earthy colors inside include rich browns, beautiful terracotta colors, and wood colors that will ensure the creation of an atmosphere of tranquility. The villa has a super-sized king-size four poster bed with quality high thread count linen, a large ensuite bathroom with a soaking bath that overlooks the forest, and a unique mud room for hiking gear. Each villa also includes an attendant to take care of your every need, as well as state-of-the-art Leica binoculars to enable you to see the wildlife in high definition.

Villas are scattered along the sloping forest, connected via wooden steps and pathways. The highest villa is Villa 10, so those who do not want to climb up as much would better ask for a villa with a lower number. Each villa also features a private deck with comfortable hanging chairs, perfect for sitting in the morning mist and listening to the symphony of the rainforest. This sense of private sanctuary in the heart of the wilderness is one of the lodge’s greatest assets.

Dining and Cuisine.

At Gorilla Forest Lodge, our meals are intended not only to sustain but to please as well, being true to the use of fresh and local ingredients that give the meal its authentic flavor. This is achieved in the indoor-outdoor lounge and restaurant, from which guests can gaze at the rainforest below. The kitchen follows a philosophy of simplicity, with a concise à la carte menu that changes daily based on available ingredients. Head Chef Medard’s menu incorporates local flavors and produce, including warming soups, creative vegetarian dishes, braised chicken with local beans, and the Ugandan favorite, the omelet-filled Rolex chapati.

The breakfast is offered early in the morning and it includes eggs, fruits, and Ugandan coffee, which will help you start your adventure with energy. Lunches are packed for trekking and consist of a variety of dishes that you can conveniently take with you up the mountain. For the evening, one can enjoy hearty soups, barbecued meat, and fresh vegetables. Traditional desserts include mango tiramisu and Bwindi banana delight with cookies. During the pre-dinner cocktail time, one has the option to drink local Tusker beer and Waragi gin or have traditional cocktails and mocktails. At this lodge, one can also enjoy dinner under the candlelight in their villa decks. Smoked beef in peanut sauce with Kalo, a type of millet bread common in the area, is one of the delicacies offered.

Services and Facilities.

What makes Gorilla Forest Lodge stand out is not only its location but also its excellent services and facilities. The staff always receive high praise for being warm, friendly, and accommodating, with villa attendants that appear to know what guests need even before they ask.
